11 Ways To Get Targeted Followers On Twitter

Many people on Twitter or should I say everyone, okay, almost everyone on Twitter has one dream in mind which I will call the Twitter dream. And what is this Twitter dream? The Twitter dream of almost everyone on Twitter is to get many followers. But if you are using Twitter as part of your business or something professional then you just don’t need any type of many followers but you need many followers who are targeted to your niche, i.e the niche your Twitter account is related to, because having many followers who are not targeted to your niche is like having nothing but having targeted followers even only one is worth so much more.

So because you need targeted followers on Twitter if you are using it for a business or professional purpose, I’m going to show you ways you can get targeted followers on Twitter.

  1. Use Hash Tags In Your Tweets: When you use hash tags along with your tweets, your tweets are categorized with that particular hash tag and so when someone searches for that hash tag on Twitter your tweet has a probability of being found and then you have a chance of being followed because the person searching for that hash tag might definitely have an interest in common with you so you have a high chance of being followed by that person and thus getting a targeted follower :) .
  2. Use The Twitter Search To Find Followers In Your Niche: Use the Twitter search feature and type in any of the keywords relating to the topic of your business or your service and then with the tweets that come up after your search, read what the users are talking about and if they are relevant to your keyword follow those you want and most of those you follow will follow you back and then after sometime or days (a day or two) unfollow all those who didn’t follow you back and then there you will have followers who are related to your niche.
  3. Comment On Blogs In Your Niche: When you comment on blogs in your niche, some blog comment systems allow you to enter your Twitter username and some don’t, they only allow you to enter your name and url of your website, but anyhow it works, when someone sees your comment in the comments field of that particular blog and follows you to your blog or follows you to your Twitter account, he or she might follow you and that’s a targeted follower there :) because if you two are reading the same blog then that means that you both share the same interest so he or she is the right target for your niche :) .
  4. Follow People In Twitter Lists In Your Niche: Go through the Twitter lists of people in your niche, for example, your followers’ Twitter lists because your followers obviously or mostly have the same interests as you so go through their Twitter lists and follow the people who interest you and are relevant to your niche in those lists and most of them will definitely follow you back and there again you have targeted followers :) .
  5. Follow People Your Followers Are Following: It’s obvious that your followers have some interests in common with you, if not all of them, most of them, so it being this way, you go to your followers and follow their followers but please make sure when following the followers of your followers that they are relevant to your niche because not all of them will be even if your followers have the same interests as you.
  6. Retweet Tweets Of People In Your Niche: Almost everyone loves it when their tweets are retweeted and so you should take advantage of that and gain targeted followers on Twitter. How do you do this? Simple, just find a number of people in your niche who you are interested in or love the info they provide and then retweet any of their tweets that you think will be helpful or interesting to your followers and then by doing this you have a high probability of the person whose info you retweeted following you back and even if he or she doesn’t follow he or she will definitely thank you and that can spring up a conversation between you two if you reply with a conversational tweet and that will even bring you a new benefit of finding a friend and someone to network with on Twitter :) . I’m a testimonial of this because I always retweet people’s stuff on Twitter everyday and it has brought up many benefits to me including getting the person whose tweet I retweeted following me, his or her followers following me, and/or he or she thanking me and thus bringing about a conversation because I mostly love to bring up conversations with people on Twitter when they talk to me :) .
  7. Socialize With People In Your Niche: To get more followers on Twitter you need to socialize with people in your niche be it on blogs, on Twitter itself, or anywhere else and then when you socialize with them they will in turn follow you on most occasions , if they know of your twitter username (those you didn’t meet on Twitter) , I know, not all of them will follow you but some would and that does count towards you having many Twitter followers and targeted ones at that.
  8. Through The Twitter Counter Widget: The Twitter Counter Widget is not a widget most blogs use as I’ve noticed, but if you visit a blog in your niche and that blog has the Twitter Counter widget on it, your Twitter info is left on the widget as the latest Twitter visitor to visit the site and this can draw you targeted followers because another visitor or reader of the blog will notice your pic or your name or your whatever that attracted him or her on the widget and then he or she will click on your username or pic to know more about you and if he or she wants, he or she will follow you thus bringing about a targeted follower because if someone reads a blog in your niche then that means you two have something in common so that person is definitely a targeted one.
  9. Mass Follow People In Your Niche: Another way to get targeted followers is to mass follow people in your niche. How do you do this? Well, it’s simple. First, there’s an app called Buzzom, and it lets you mass follow the followers of other people. Go to Buzzom and mass follow the followers of a big person or an expert in your niche because if they’re interested in him, then they will be interested in you too because you two share a common niche or interest and most of them will follow you back, and there you have targeted followers. Please don’t think this is not a good way to get targeted followers because it is and it has worked for me greatly and even some good friends I’ve met on Twitter came through mass following. And also mass following is just like you following people but it’s just on a big scale so there’s no bad thing about it :) .
  10. Answer Questions On Twitter Related To Your Blog’s Topic Or Niche: Use the Twitter search feature and search for questions relating to your topic or niche and then answer those questions for the askers by replying to their tweets or if you don’t know the answer point them to a good source where they can find the answer and by doing this those you help will surely follow you back, on most occasions because they will know that you are knowledgeable in that particular topic or niche you helped them with :) .
  11. Tweet Posts Of Blogs In Your Niche: Just like retweeting the tweets of people in your niche, you tweet posts of blogs in your niche, mostly it’s good to use the retweet button on the person’s blog because this will have the person’s @username mention in your tweet and will let the person know that you talked about him or her and through this the person will follow you back, on most occasions. I’ve gotten many followers through this method, targeted ones at that :) .

So these are some of the ways to get targeted followers on Twitter, I’m saying some because I know these are not the only ways, so if you’ve got some ways to share or some tips or just any thought to share about this post, please do so in the comments field below. Thanks :) .

Twitter has not been particularly effective for me, but admittedly I haven’t put a lot of effort and energy. I think I may follow some of your solid twitter tips and explore my art niche more proactively. I am also glad to be educated on that whole hash tag thing.

  3. Great list Shirley. I think #7 is really important. I must admit that it isn’t one that I have done on a large scale with Twitter – mostly due to time restrictions more than anything – so I know I need to concentrate on this one a little more.

Thanks for the tips. I have tried most of these tips and they do work. Just be careful on the mass adding of followers. Twitter doesn’t like mass following/unfollows. You can get a temporary or full ban on your twitter account.

You’re welcome element :) , with the Twitter mass following it depends on how one uses it, that is you have to use it wisely :) .

      • element321 says:

yes, if I mass add I only add maybe a hundred or so. Anymore than that, and twitter admins tend to start watching the accounts. When I mass add I generally look for certain keyword groups on sites like twibes and add those only and then remove the ones that are bots or are not tweetting.

I’m pretty new to twitter, so I didn’t know about the use of the hash tag. I’ll start using it.

Its great to have lots of followers who have thousands of followers themselves because if they retweet an interesting post you made on your blog then suddenly your blog’s doors are opened to thousands more potential visitors.
