I’ve read many blogs and also heard people talk about using Wordpress (software) for your blog because it helps your blog, helps you rank high in the search engines, has great plugins built for it than all the other blogging platforms, it’s easy to use, has many great features, and a whole lot more.
I haven’t used Wordpress (software) for long, I just started using it just this December, 2009, so I can’t say much about it. The only thing I can say now till I’ve used Wordpress for sometime is that I think it’s great to use, easy on your hands, and has great plugins built for almost any kind of feature you want on your blog.
I also know of big blogs that don’t run on Wordpress but are big and making loads of money and have loads and loads of readers.
So what I think is that yes, your blogging platform matters but it doesn’t matter as much as production of content, marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and other things that matter when it comes to blogging.
So I have a question today for all my readers.
Does One’s Blogging Platform Determine The Success Of One’s Blog Or Not?
Please share your thoughts in the comments field. Thanks

Word press is the leading platform for most blogs. The most authoritative survey I’ve seen so far suggests that most of the blogs in the top 100 list (Techcrunch) are indeed wordpress blogs….That makes wordpress number 1 in my book.
Oh, okay. Thanks for sharing your opinion, NT, and thanks for visiting

I used lots of different blogging and CMS packages on all of my websites/blogs. I even wrote my own CMS software a while ago, because nothing really worked the way I wanted it to. And then I discovered Wordpress, and I converted almost all my websites and blogs to Wordpress. Sometimes I finetune it a bit, but most of the time it works just great with the plugins and themes available.
I love wordpress.
That’s very great to hear, Bjorn

To an extend, it does matter. The platform you choose is your tool that helps you get your content, ideas or services out there. It should be helpful and easy for YOU to use. If its not accomplishing what you want for your site then it will definitely hamper what you vision as success for yourself. I mean, you wouldn’t use a screwdriver to drive a nail right? I can be done but the amount of effort and time it will take is not worth it. In addition, some platforms (Blogger for instance) add their branding to your site so this may not come across as professional to your readers, if that’s what you want.
Great explanation of your opinion, john. You have a great point there

Yes i believe that blogging platform plays a major role in Alexa ranking, page optimization, branding and definitely SEO.

Hi Shirley,
I did not realize that you joined Blog Engage. Welcome to the community!
I’m using WordPress.com and Blogger. I prefer WordPress.com for now but plan to migrate to self-hosted WordPress so that I can enjoy the many plugins available. In comparison, Blogger is not that great and I find that amazing considering it is run by Google???
Thanks for asking about this, many new comers (and some old as well) might still be wondering.
See you in Twitterville!

Yup, you’re right about Blogger, it doesn’t have many features. It’s good to know that you’ll be moving to self-hosted Wordpress
